Mental Health Counseling internship in NYC
At Cognitive Reset Counseling we offer supervised practicum and internship placements for graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited Mental Health Counseling program in New York City. This is a hands-on clinical experience where you'll work directly with adult clients navigating anxiety, stress, burnout, complex trauma, and the unique pressures of creative and entrepreneurial life in NYC.
This is not a passive placement. You will be doing real clinical work from day one, supported by a licensed supervisor who is invested in your growth. And you will leave with more than hours. You will leave with a working understanding of a clinical framework that actually sets you apart.

Mental Health Counseling Internship Placements in NYC
Cognitive Reset Counseling is a small, intentional practice where every clinician is part of a team that takes the work seriously. As a graduate counseling student here you'll work alongside therapists who blend neuroscience, psychology, and genuine creativity in their clinical approach. Our clients are artists, performers, entrepreneurs, and high-achieving creatives navigating the real pressures of NYC life. The work is meaningful and the learning curve is real.
You'll build direct clinical experience providing individual therapy, participating in supervision, and getting an honest look at how a modern brain-body-mind informed private practice actually operates. We are committed to your growth as a clinician and we take that commitment seriously.

Please note we are only able to accept practicum students currently enrolled in an accredited Mental Health Counseling graduate program who are located in New York City. This placement is not available to Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy students at this time.
YOUR EXPERIENCE AT CRC
What You'll Gain at Cognitive Reset Counseling
Graduate counseling students at CRC carry a caseload of individual adult clients presenting with anxiety, stress, burnout, complex trauma, and the unique pressures of creative and entrepreneurial life in NYC. All client sessions are conducted virtually, giving you the flexibility to build your clinical hours from anywhere in New York City.
Every week you will meet individually with your clinical supervisor, a licensed clinician holding diagnostic privilege in New York State. This is not checkbox supervision. It is a dedicated, clinically substantive hour focused on your caseload, your development, and your growing competence as a therapist in training.
You will also get an honest look at how a modern private practice operates. From session documentation and treatment planning to the ethical and business decisions that keep a practice running well, you will leave this placement understanding what sustainable, ethical, client-centered care actually looks like from the inside.

The Cognitive Reset Counseling Clinical Development Series
At most practicum sites, supervision is where the structured learning ends. At CRC it is where it begins.
All graduate clinicians at CRC participate in the CRC Clinical Development Series, a structured bimonthly training program that runs from fall through spring. Each cycle introduces you to a technique, theory, or intervention that is central to how CRC approaches clinical care. The following month we meet in person at our Greenpoint, Brooklyn office for group supervision to explore the topic together, discuss how it applies to real client work, and build a shared clinical language as a team.
Topics covered in the series include:
-
Somatic therapy foundations
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS) fundamentals
-
HRV coherence breathing and HeartMath principles
-
Introduction to neurocounseling
-
Brainspotting
Each topic is introduced at a foundational level. This is not clinical certification or advanced training in any of these modalities. What it gives you is a working understanding of the frameworks CRC uses every day. You will leave each session with language, context, and clinical curiosity that goes well beyond what most graduate programs cover. That is the kind of training that stays with you.
